About me

I am a sculptor, carver and teacher with over 20 years’ experience. After graduating with a BA in Fine Art at Lancaster University, followed by a PGCE, I taught art in secondary schools for many years while practising as a sculptor in a range of media. I went on to postgraduate study in Architectural Stone Carving at the City and Guilds of London Art School www.cityandguildsartschool.ac.uk and I now work as an independent carver and letter cutter. I have completed commissions for many private clients as well public works for English Heritage, the National Trust and the North Pennines AONB. Examples of my work can currently be found at whitewatergallery.co.uk and tregonygallery.co.uk.

As a teacher, I take great pleasure in helping every student to achieve their goals, whether that’s trying carving for the first time, developing a specific skill or moving forward with a particular carving project. My training and practice encompass the classical forms of architectural carving and lettering as well as more contemporary and expressive sculpture. As a tutor, I can thus offer guidance in the style of carving which most interests each individual student.

I come from Newcastle-upon-Tyne and still have strong ties to the North East. Away from the studio I play the piano to keep my fingers flexible and I love rock climbing and getting out to the moors and crags of Northumberland or the Lakeland fells as often as possible, as well as enjoying the granite Tors of Devon and Cornwall.

"I just wanted to say that the sculpture is perfect and we absolutely love it. It catches the light in so many different ways and looks amazing"
